Beaucarnea recurvata, the elephant's foot or ponytail palm, is a species of plant in the familyAsparagaceae. The species was native to numerous states of eastern Mexico but is now confined to the state of Veracruz.[1][3] Despite its common name, it is not closely related to the true palms (Arecaceae). It has become popular in Europe and worldwide as an ornamental plant. There are even some  350-year-old Beaucarneas registered in Mexico.

This plant grows to about 4 metres tall although they can be trimmed to prevent them growing taller and will form branches. If they are kept in small pots this will restrict their growth. When these plants mature in age and size they make a great feature plant Also suitable for outdoor use make great container specimens for balconies and courtyards.

Will tolerate dry hot and sunny positions and should be placed in a very well lit spot inside.
